Reliance has increased the rates for mobile calls to
2 paise per second from the present 1.5 paise for both the CDMA and
GSM pre-paid connections. Vodafone, Airtel , Idea Cellular and Tata Teleservices have
already raised the rates to 2 paise months back. The charges are being
increased, according to the companies, to avoid losses. Within no time,
all private players may increase the rates. Now that they have about 86%
of the market share together, they need not be worried, while increasing
rates.
Such more moves are expected in the future. If the
PSUs, BSNL and MTNL were in a better position, these private companies
would never have dared to increase the rates. BSNL and MTNL continues
with the 1 paise per one second.
