15.05.2013]Meeting with Sr.GM (Recruitment) on implementation of DoP&T orders on reservation of SC/ST employees. 

Based on the discussion held in the last National Council meeting, BSNLEU has already submitted a note to the Sr.GM(Rectt.), and has held a detailed discussion in respect of implementing DoP&T orders on reservation to SC/ST employees. The Sr.GM(Rectt.) replied that he has gathered information that a high level committee, formed by BSNL Management in this regard has already taken decisions on this, and assured that a copy of the same would be provided to the Union soon. CHQ would further persue this issue.

[15.05.2013]Kapil Sibal proposes out of court settlement with Vodafone in the Rs.11,000 crore tax cheating case.

As per media reports, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal will soon approach the Cabinet, seeking it’s approval for an out of court settlement with Vodafone in the Rs.11,000 crore tax cheating case. Vodafone cheated govt. to the tune of Rs.8,500 crore in income tax in 2007. Since Vodafone refused to pay the amount, legal battle is going on for the past so many years. When Pranab Mukherjee was the Finance Minister, he brought changes in the Income Tax Law, to ensure that Vodafone does not escape. The total amount payable by Vodafone now is Rs.11,000 crore, which includes the interest. However, Kapil Sibal and the UPA govt. have become very kind to Vodafone now and want to settle the tax dispute out of court. Now, the question is, why Kapil Sibal and UPA govt. don’t have such kindness towards BSNL?
