BSNL in the forefront of serving the people in distress.
An impression is being sought to be created, especially by the media that government companies provide sub-standard services. BSNL has also been subjected to this sort of criticism. But the torrential rains that Chennai has witnessed, and the subsequent floods, have proved beyond doubt that BSNL is in the forefront in serving the people and the private companies are in the forefront in only looting the people. It was lauded by one and all that, it was only BSNL which provided service during the floods, while all the private companies had closed down their shops during this period when the people were in distress. The following are the figures, provided by the Hindu dated 06-12-2015, with regards to the number of towers of each telecom company, that remained operational during the floods at Chennai.
COMPANY. FAILURE
BSNL. 22.5%
AIRTEL. 53%
IDEA. 84%
RELIANCE. 80%
AIRCEL. 60%
SSTL. 82%
DDSL. 94%
Vodafone is having 1669 towers. But it did not provide details with regards to the number of it's towers which remained operational.
